Accentuating humanity, nature, and peace in the digital age.
That is the goal here. Digital perfectionism edges out the human element in expressive art forms. I’m seeking to do something different and capture the modern world through obsolete tools of a bygone era. I don’t believe that the good old days are necessarily behind us, and when you live life as if the good old days are now, it tends to be the case.
In film, the photo simply is what it is. I offer editing to bring out some additional light and color that can be hidden within the negatives, but while these photos may be shared and altered digitally, they were created in a pure analog form, with the light of the scene transforming the chemical elements of the film in an instant.
Film photography is becoming increasingly popular for this warmth, grain, and expressive flaws, which mirrors reality in a way that captures the emotion of any scene and invites nostalgia both in the present and the future.
Much of my landscape photography is inspired by the rugged wildlands of Southern Appalachia, Christianity, my travels, and the spirit of adventure. In capturing these natural scenes, I try to document the world as it is seen through my eyes when I am living a life of outdoor recreation, adventure, and quiet contemplation. Many of these scenes invoke peaceful reflection and can bring the feeling of resting atop a high summit and looking out over the horizon to the walls of your home.
I’ll also share stories behind the photos, in my best imitation of a Hemingway short story that didn’t make it past the editors.
